Responsibility Behind the Wheel- Editorial Section (Satire)

The government should ponder on the idea of lowering the driving age as a benefit for teens worldwide. The state is currently waiting for teens to get too old before getting behind the wheel. They believe teens are not mature enough to drive safely but the truth is they are. The following article expresses well the opinion of those who disagree with lowering the driving age. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/09/10/national/main4433994.shtml.

Teenagers living in our time period are very careful and don’t give into peer pressure. They remain firm and stand for what they believe in. Teens don’t find alcohol enticing and would rather say home and sleep than go out to a party. That is why there is such a small amount of drunk driver’s accidents taking place. This should be an excellent reason why they should receive the privilege of getting behind the wheel at an earlier age. The same article listen earlier also emphasizes great points on the opinions of those who believe the driving age should be lowered. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/09/10/national/main4433994.shtml

Kids today are much more responsible than some well grown adults. Adults are losing their sight way too fast; they have too much stress to deal with and are causing numerous accidents on the road. Grown adults are having trouble reaching the speed limit now a day and are slowing down the driving on the road. Adults are getting old way too fast and this is affecting their driving as well.

They can barely see over the wheel and this makes it difficult for them too see when the car before them has stopped. Their excessive Alzheimer issue is leading them to forget what they must travel with on the road. Many of them are forgetting their glasses and they accelerate when the light is red and they stop when the light is green.
Most of the times, adults even forget to bring their license with them, a young adult would never do such thing. Teens deserve the right to start driving; they are very responsible and know how to distinguish right from wrong.

For this editorial article I satirized the driving age. I used the reversal technique because in actual life adults are much more mature than young teens.

I also made use of incongruity; teens today give in way too easily into peer pressure. When found in a fight or flight situation they give in into the temptation.

One final technique I included was exaggeration. An adult doesn’t act the way I explained behind the wheel. Not all of them suffer from Alzheimer’s and most of them remember to travel with their driver’s license.

FIFA 10 Game Review

FIFA 10 comes with drastic improvements from its older version, one being the 360 degree dribbling aspect. This allows the players a varied of option in the types of movements they decide to play. Though some of the games previous characteristics continue to be seen, small improvements can be noticed. The games visual quality improved, making the players very similar to what they actually look like.

The game offers numerous teams to play by. FIFA 10 comes with 199 teams leaving no room for complaints. Two new brands have been added to the new version of the game. One is The Story of Qualifying, where one is given the ability to rewrite the history of past matches that have been played so far in the world cup. Captain you’re Country, the other brand added to the game, allows the players to show off their skills. The key of this mode is to try to get the managers attention. The goal of the player is to reach the level of captain and by doing so one receives more on field options through out the game.

FIFA 10 with out a doubt provides players with load of new attractions and modes. The quality is high and very realistic. However, there continues to be room for improvement in the video game. FIFA 11 is only six month away and its impact will raise many opinions among its fans.

An Early College Expierience- Feature Section

The Polonsky Brothers Foundations is providing juniors with a better understanding of college courses and college living by sponsoring the Project Epic Summer Enrichment Program. This program gives juniors the opportunity to attend a college of their choice from Mid Atlantic and New England.

Various students from Red Bank Regional High School have been given the privilege of taking part in the Epic Program. Among these are, juniors Lamain Nelson, Sarah Perez, Lauren Rodriguez and Jane Seguira. The students are able to meet and connect each other through the well known social site, Facebook.

When speaking with juniors Lamain Nelson and Sarah Perez from Red Bank they shared they will be attending Boston College. Nelson shared, “There were numerous college options, however, I decided to apply to Boston College and Cornell University. I got accepted into both but I will be attending Boston”.

Though it’s a great opportunity, the Epic program also requires a lot of responsibility. The students will be encountering real college life and must be prepared for the experience. Nelson shared some of the ways in which she is getting ready for the journey. “I have been preparing for this experience by talking to numerous other students attending the program, emailing the director, and buying things I will need for my trip such as school and room supplies”.

Being equipped for the journey is very important since the student will find them selves surrounded by the college atmosphere. They will be offered college level courses that will be of benefit towards their future college years. “I will be taking two courses, theology of the old testament and political science, the influence of media in our government. I chose these to classes because both topics are of great interest for me”, shared Perez.

As students prepare to depart for their journey on June 26, they receive the support of their family and friends. Both of the juniors being interviewed confessed their families supported their decision and are proud of the effort their children have given. The foundation will be providing the students transportation. Nelson shared, “In the beginning I was suppose to take a plane but my mother and stepfather did not like the idea of me getting on a airplane by myself. So they offered to give me a drive. However, the foundation wants to arrange all of the transportation so now I am taking a four hour train ride to arrive at the campus.

The students confessed to be a little bit nervous but ready to take up on a new challenge. The Epic Program is providing a valuable experience where the students are not only receiving credit for the courses being taken. The student will also receive an understanding on how college level works and what college life is like.

Oil Spill Expansion- News Section

Since the end of April marine animals and beaches located in the Gulf of Mexico, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama are suffering due to the catastrophic oil spill. An accident took place on the drilling ship, Deepwater Horizon causing a pipe to burst underwater and begin to leak thousands of gallons of oil per day.

The exact cause of the accident is still unclear. When speaking with upcoming Red Bank Regional High School freshman, John Smith from Red Bank he shared, “I am not too clear on what the exact cause of the spill was but I believe it was due to poor sealing of the pipe after it had been drilled. The exact cause is still unclear”.

Many questions have risen on who should hold the responsibility for the crisis. When all the companies met to discuss on the issue no one was willing to take up all the blame. BP blamed the contractors and the contractors blamed another and so on. Controversies on who is responsible have risen, “I personally believe that the US government is to blame because later investigations showed that BP was not meeting all of the safety regulations”, shared Smith. The government is responsible for making major oil companies meet safety regulations and in this case that didn’t take place.

Though the problem arose in the Gulf of Mexico, it has already managed to extend. If the spill does not cease, it is predicted to spread so far out that it might reach Florida and the East Coast. The consequences can bring forth drastic effect. The oil spill is already killing numerous animals and it is affecting beaches in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. Smith stated, “If the oil spill can’t be fixed, I believe that the results will be disastrous. The oil could possibly spread around the East Coast of the U.S. and maybe even the Atlantic Ocean. This would end up killing many animals and destroying many beaches”.

The government is working hard to find an end to the oil spill. At one point they planned to simply throw explosives down to the pipe and hope that the rubble would block the leak. Many believe this was a useless solution and only wasted time.

However, now they have places what looks like an upside down funnel over the leaking pipe to draw out some of the oil into a pipe that leads it into a boat. “It is leading almost 90% of the oil coming out of the pipe onto the boat above”, said Smith. This method is being used until the relief well being drilled is finished. The relief well is being drilled at an angle near the spot of the leaking pipe. “I believe this is all they can do to solve this problem”, confessed Smith.

The relief well can take up to three months to drill. Nevertheless, the damage caused by the spill is permanent. All of the oil out on the water will never be completely cleaned up.
